Body Fat Estimation using the Jackson Pollock 3-Point Method
Body Measurement Tracker uses the Jackson Pollock 3-Point body composition estimation technique in order to estimate body fat percentage. This technique requires a set of body fat calipers* and is known for being fairly accurate for most people of average build but may underestimate body fat levels for very lean individuals. The Jackson-Pollock 3-Point body fat test estimates body fat percentage and lean body mass based on age, weight, gender and three skinfold caliper measurements which differ for men and women.
For Men:
Chest - a skinfold measurement halfway between the nipple and the upper portion of the pectoral muscle from the armpit
Abdomen - a vertical skin fold measurement one inch to the right of the belly button
Thigh - a vertical skin fold measurement at mid thigh
For Women:
Triceps - a vertical skinfold taken halfway between the top of the shoulder and the elbow
Abdomen (or Suprailiac) - a diagonal skinfold above the superior anterior iliac crest (the protrusion that is commonly known as the hip bone)
Thigh - a vertical skin fold measurement at mid thigh
